About Global Shapers Harare

a group of young achievers poised for greater world leadership positions in the near future, but already taking action to shape that very future.

The Global Shapers Community is a network of young people driving dialogue, action and change.

Born out of the World Economic Forum, the Global Shapers Community is a network of inspiring young people largely under the age of 30 working together to address local, regional and global challenges. With more than 7,000 members, the Global Shapers Community spans 369 city-based hubs in 171 countries.

In each city, teams of Shapers self-organize to create projects that address the needs of their community. Projects are wide-ranging – from responding to disasters and combating poverty, to fighting climate change and building inclusive communities. Shapers are diverse in expertise, education, income and race, but are united by their desire to bring about change.

It’s more than just talented individuals, it’s a family who sacrifices time, effort and resources to make a better world. As a Shaper, I have the opportunity to be inspired and to inspire others to actively shape our environment without expecting to be rewarded.
— Luis Sena, Santo Domingo Hub

If you asked me to choose the best part of being a Global Shaper, it’s not any of the fancy stuff. It’s the people.
 — Mariel Reed, San Francisco Hub
“We believe in a world where young people are central to solution building, policy-making and lasting change.”

Background and Scope.

Projects are wide-ranging including responding to disasters, combating poverty, fighting climate change, and building inclusive communities.  While Shapers focus on their own communities, they also look for opportunities to have impact on a global scale, by joining forces with other hubs.

The first ever hub in Zimbabwe was opened in 2012 by the founding curator Nigel MK Chanakira. The Bulawayo hub was then formed subsequently.

The Harare Hub prides itself in churning out vibrant business, community and political leaders over the years. The Alumni is rich!

What is Global Shapers Harare Hub?

The Global Shapers Harare Hub is one of the many hubs of the Global Shapers community dotted across the globe. The hubs are city based, thus Harare has its sister hub called the Bulawayo Hub in Zimbabwe.

The Harare Hub just like all the other Global Shapers community hubs is an initiative of the World Economic Forum. It is thus guided by the principles set by  the same. Business mogul and serial mentor, Nigel MK Chanakira founded the Harare Hub in 2012. He is thus the founding curator and known as such in the community.
